Crocodile Smile

A Crocodile Smile
First of all what is a Crocodile Smile?
As the crocodile is in truth a lipless wonder they cannot really create the physical smile. Without lips what can you do? Moreover it’s about what it can’t do and tends to be more of our mythology we dream up in thinking something so large and with so many teeth must know how to smile.
So it is given the idea that maybe it is smiling the sly smile on the inside with the clever knowing if any get to close they will indeed have something to smile about even if they can’t physically display it.
For today imagine what makes you smile on the inside. How does that smile manifest on the outside? Are there times when you might be sporting the sly all knowing smile patiently awaiting your prey to drop into your lap?
Can you also spot a few crocodile smiles today?
The genuine ones you will remember have a twinkle in the eye that draws down the brow, crinkles the crows feet and brings up the cheeks.
The Crocodile gives you the full gala of teeth, you know the smile…the others are just alligators!

Sometimes it really isn’t about what everyone else is or isn’t doing; it is just about what you are. Today, while I might have wanted to spot the crocodiles smiling on the outside, I was struck by where my own crocodile smiles existed.
Someone was hoping to give me a hard time and on went the crocodile smile. I figured I might just smile him out instead of believing the story he was selling. I had one of my own and I was thinking of that and just smiling. He didn’t seem to notice and kept right on talking….I kept on smiling knowing the game was afoot!
The smile was true because I was simply believing a bigger story than he was selling and the crocodile smile reminded me of that while I remained quite noncommittal to his agenda I could still be a genuine to my own values and beliefs. After awhile he just sort of gave up not really knowing what was behind the crocodile smile…mostly because he was so busy talking that he didn’t ask.
I love it when I can turn something around like that, holding to my principles and beliefs without animosity toward another. I found the crocodile smile could really be an asset in learning the value of patience too.
I guess we always get to choose what side of the crocodile we are. The one that is chattering away on the outside flashing the teeth or the one smiling and knowing on the inside …a real bite of delight!
